GROUNDS NOT PREPARED

Responsibilities Of Clubs Heavy fines were imposed on three clubs last evening by the Canterbury Football Association for failure to have the grounds allotted to them in order by a notified date. The chairman (Mr J. Smith) reported that to enable boys’ teams to play their games last Saturday, it had been necessary for a member of the Junior Management Committee to travel round making posts safe. First he took his sons to help, but one was nearly injured by a falling cross-bar. so it had been necessarv for his wife to help. The three clubs. Burnham. Teachers’ College, and University had been notified that they were responsible for the grounds and posts and had been told that they must have them in order for the games to be played on Mprch 27 but they had done nothing about it ‘‘This is serious, and we have to bring them to order,” said Mr T. Gottermeyer when he moved that a fine of £5 be imposed on the clubs. His motion was subsequently passed, with the provision that the fines would be reconsidered should satisfactory explanations for failure to carry out their obligations be received from the clubs.
