ARANUI SITE FOR HIGH SCHOOL
Urgent Attention To Objections Sought Urgent attention to the objections of New Brighton and New Brighton South school committees to the proposed site in Aranui for a new post-primary school was requested by the Education Department in a letter read to the Christchurch Post-primary Schools Council last evening. ** The council also received a letter from the school committees concerned asking that the council meet a deputation with a view to discussing their proposal to site the school in New Brighton instead of Aranui. The department’s officer said in his letter to the council that the school committees’ representations to the Minister of Education (Mr R. M. Algie) were based cn the claims that: “New Brighton is the centre of a district with a population of 10.000, already served by four primary schools whose pupils would attend the new high school. “The Aranui district, which has one primary school, is served by several post-primary schools and could also be served by a high schol having full status as a postprimary school. “Every school east of the Avon river is in accordance with the desire to see a high school established in the logical position, namely New Brighton.” A sub-committee was appointed to confer with representatives of the school committees.
Lincoln College Board.—Mr H R Lake, M.P.. was the only person nominated to replace Mr R. G Gerard. M.P.. who resigned from the Board of Governors of Canterbury Agricultural College. Lincoln. The election, by members of Parliament in Canterbury, will not now be necessary, and Mr Lake will be declared elected on May 14.
