Rock ’n’Roll Not Wanted
Rock ’n* roll was unwanted element in the Christchurch Jazz Society, said Mr J. Fowler at a meeting of the society last evening. He was commenting on the large number of members who came to the society's socials and expected to hear, rock *n’ roll music. “When this type of music is played it completely changes the course of our society,” he said The president (Mr T. T. Robins) said in the annual »eport that the society had had a very successful year. Several concerts had been run and they were a success.
Mr Robins said that the membership of the society al the beginning of this year was 230 members. “The club’s financial position is good.”. Mr N. Wesney, the secretary, said that recently three football clubs were raided by the police. “Surely this was a warning that at future gatherings alcoholic refreshment be banned altogether,” he said.
After the meeting members of the society played some modem jazz numbers. Officers elected were:—president, Mr M. Mackay; immediate past-president, Mr T. T. Robins; vice-president, Mr G Cooper; secretary, Mr N. Wesney; treasurer, Mr H. Bicknell; committee, Messrs T. T. Robins, M. Child worth. R. Toomer, R. Gleason, J. Dumpleton, O. Carr and Miss J. Clancy.
