TABLE TENNIS
Japanese Players’ Itinerary (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 30. A tentative itinerary for the tour of New Zealand by the Japanese table tennis players, including the former world champion, I. Ogimura, was approved at a meeting last evening of the executive committee of the New Zealand Table Tennis Association. The itinerary provides for 26 matches, including four tests, one at each of the four main centres. The first match is against Northland at Whangarei on July 22, and the last against New Zealand, at Christchurch, on August 22. Because the guarantee for the tour is higher than for any previous visit, associations’ guarantees are higher. Wellington and Auckland have each to find £2lO, but each has two matches, including a test. An application by the Waikato association for permission to play R. V. Jackson, of Auckland, against the Japanese was agreed to. Entries for this year’s national table tennis championships will close with the national secretary in Wellington on August 1. Entries for the inter-association teams’ tournament, which will be held in conjunction with the championships at Lower Hutt from September 2 to September 6, will close on July 18. These dates were decided by the executive committee. A former secretary of the Hutt Valley Table Tennis Association, Mr W. Mullins, of Lower Hutt, was elected chairman of the New Zealand association to succeed Mr V. M. Mitchell, of Wellington, who resigned at the conclusion of last season after being chairman for the last 11 years.
