PAKISTAN TOUR OF N.Z.

No Announcement By Association

The New Zealand Hockey Association is still not certain that a Pakistani team will tour the Dominion this season. At the annual meeting of the association yesterday, the chairman of the management committee (Mr J. G. Leggat) explained the difficulties which have been encountered by the association in trying to get definite information from Pakistan.

“The committee does not feel justified in making any official announcement at present. Although we have received cabled advice that the team is coming, the details are terribly vague. We have not even been told how they will travel or their date of departure, so that we cannot work out a definite itinerary.

“Letters which we have sent to private individuals in Pakistan have all been acknowledged, but unfortunately I cannot say the same of the Pakistan Association. We believe the team will arrive in early June, but unless we receive definite information soon we may have to cancel the tour,’’ said Mr Leggat. The meeting then went into committee to discuss the matter further.
