Antarctic Senate And Supreme Court Formed

Antarctic politics, previously confined to Government circles in the more temperate lands, have now appeared in at least one base on the continent itself. At the United States scientific headquarters, Little America, a has been formed “to afford ali hands an opportunity through elected representatives to express to the command any comments or suggestions about various aspects of the community life.” The Senate has already had its first convention. The group, pari of a special services’ organisation, consists of nine senators elected by and from men serving at the base. One of the objects of the group is to generate z, plausible ideas” and plans with special attention to recreation and education. Patterned after the Federal Government of “Big America,” the Little America special services also includes a cabinet, supreme court and president. The purpose of the court is “to provide counsel of command heads in matters pertaining to general good and order and to approve or disapprove recommendations and initiate action corresponding that which the commanding officer would make.” “In a small way, with certain modifications,, special services operates as a miniature American

government,” says a Navy report. “It stimulates interest and provides good training in democracy.”
