KITE FLIES “CONGRATULATIONS.”—In commemoration of the entry of Japan to the United Nations, this big kite (40ft by 35ft and weighing 500lb) was flown from the abandoned airfield of Okino, at Yokha Ichi city, in central Japan, last week. As it rose, a slowly-beaten drum boomed and 20,000 spectators from the surrounding countryside roared their approval. The kite, which was being flown for the first time in four years, had a United Nations flag woven in the middle together with a big Japanese character signifying “Congratulations.”
