CHEAPER AIR FARES

Prediction By Mr Shand (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 30. The Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr T. P. Shand) tonight predicted reduced fares fox’ commercial aviation when New Zealand's airport and flying aids programmes were fulfilled. When new airports were operating, when Viscounts were flying the trunk services and Dakota replacements were being used bn the secondary routes, and when better ground facilities (runway and navigational aids) were available, a saving of £1,105,000 should result. Mr Shand said he expected that some part, perhaps a substantial part, of the saving would be passed on by the National Airways Corporation in reduced fares. The new cost era was expected to operate by about 1970.
