ARTHUR’S PASS ROAD OPEN
Use Of Route Not Recommended The Arthur’s Pass road to the West Coast is now open but its use, particularly by small cars, is not recommended by the Automobile Association (Canterbury). The surface is rough and there is very little space for vehicles. Three slips between Candys Bend and Otira have been cleared by the Ministry of Works, but the Automobile Association considers that only a little further rain could again .cause a washout at Candys Bend. There was scouring at Greneys creek and Halpins creek, on the Christchurch side of. the Arthur’s Pass township, but both creeks have now subsided.
