Zoo’s Parrot Dies, Aged 100
“The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, April 29. The oldest inhabitant of the Auckland Zoo, a parrot named Percy, has died, aged 100. Percy was believed to 65 years old when brought to New Zealand from Australia 35 years ago when the zoo was opened. The second-oldest inhabitant is thought to be Jamuna, the elephant, aged 45. Keepers say jokingly that the parrot died of shock as a result of the new colour scheme at the zoo. The monkey cages and others are being painted pink, blue, and green.
