JUDGES FOR SYDNEY EISTEDDFOD

Judges for the City of Sydney Eisteddfod, to be held from September 16 to 28, have been announced by the chairman (Mr Roy P. Godfrey). Miss Thea Philips, formerly a principal of Covent Garden and' now a chief study teacher (sing- 1 ing) at Melbourne University Conservatorium, will judge the “Sun” aria contest through all stages. A second judge will be appointed later. Mr Wilfrid King, an experienced English judge, and Mr Frederick Rogers, music critic of the Brisbane “Telegraph,” will judge choirs and general vocal work. String contests will be covered by Dr. Noel Nickson, and Mr Lauri Kennedy will judge the chamber music contest sponsored by the Musica Viva Society. Senior piano championships will be judged by Mr Max Olding, chief study teacher (piano) at Melbourne University Conservatorium: The senior lecturer in adult education at New England University (Mr Campbell Howard) will judge speech and drama, and Mr Charles Collings (Sydney) will be associated with him. Ballet will be judged by Miss Beth Dean and national dancing by Mr Alex Johnston.
