NEW AREA FOR INDUSTRY
Land Zoned In Bromley
The Bromley district was not suitable for development as a residential area because of the closeness to cemeteries, the crematorium and the sewage farm stated the town planning committee to the City Council last evening. The council adopted the committee’s recommendations setting aside three areas of Bromley tot industrial purposes. The land at present is zoned as rural. The northern portion of the block bounded by Bromley road, St. John street and Linwood avenue—3o to 40 acres—and the southern portion of the block bounded by Ruru, Dyers and Bromley roads and the eastern boundary of the Ruru Cemetery —approximately 100 acres—will become light industrial land. Land for heavy industry will be provided m the northern portion of the last-mentioned block —100 to 125 acres; and for noxious in dustry in the north-eastern corner of the block—about 25 acres There was high pressure watei and electricity available at pres ent but no sewer, the committee reported. Most of the area, with the exception of the portion south of Bromley road was high, sandy land near main roads to the city and within reasonable distance of the proposed tunnel road. There were 30 to 40 houses ot mixed ages, mainly on the Maces road and Dyers road frontages and a small school in Bromley 7 road. It was not expected that the areas would be fully developed industrially for some years.
