DRAUGHTS
Christchurch Club Several successes by local players last year were reported at the annual meeting of the Christchurch Draughts Club. Mr J. Dowie, the New Zealand title holder, won the South Island championship, and Mr P. D. Ewen won the South Island handicap event. Club competitions resulted:—Senior championship: W. O’Malley 1, J. Dowie 2. Junior championship: S. G. Smith 1, A. Collins 2. McGrath cup (handicap): W. O'Malley 1, J. Dowie 2. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Mr L. J. R. Lee; president, Mr W. Banks; vice-presidents, Messrs W. A. Morris, J. Shadbolt, P. A. Scott, P. D. Ewen, W. Hargreaves, A. Collins; joint secretary-treasurer. Messrs S. G. Smith, A. Amos.
The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Shirley sub-branch of the Plunket Society: patron, Mrs H. E. Stevenson; president, Mrs R. A. Armstrong; vice-presidents. Mrs F. L. Mitchell and Mrs D. Glanville; secretary. Mrs J. B. Turner; treasurer, Mrs G. Fisher: committee, Mesdames Dee. Bryant, Nurse, Tait and Cosgriff: advisory board, Mr M. A. Connelly, M.P., Dr. D. I. Chisholm and Dr. R. G. Mathieson.
