Rifle Shooting OAKES SHIELD MATCH
Christchurch Beats Sheffield The Christchurch Rifle Club retained the Canterbury Rifle Association’s challenge shield by a narrow margin of two points when they defeated the Sydenham Rifle Club by 748 to 746 at Tai Tapu on Saturday. Only one possible was scored, this by I. Ballinger of the Sydenham team, at 300 yards, he being top scorer also for the match. Scores were:—
250 252 244 746 The last challenge match of the season will be fired between Malvern Rifle Club and Christchurch, the holders, on May 11.
Anzac Delegate Dies.— Mr Godfrey Power Clapcott, of Feilding, a member of the New Zealand Anzac contingent at Adelaide, collapsed and died at his hotel last night. He is believed to have suffered a heart attack. Mr Clapcott, who was about 65, served with the New Zealand Mounted Rifles in World War I.—Adelaide, April 26.
