ELECTIONS IN EGYPT
July 3 Chosen For Date (R ee. 9 p.m.) CAIRO, April 28. The postponed elections for an Egyptian National Assembly would be held on July 3, it was officially announced in Cairo. The new Assembly would hold its first meeting on July 22. The new Egyptian Constitution adopted in a vote last June proposed the formation of the Assembly and the elections were originally to have been held last October. The Constitution laid down a system for the election of a President and vested legislative powers in a single board—a national assembly of 350 elected members. It provided for ,a National Assembly to nominate future Presidential candidates for election by peoples’ referendum. The President, who is head of the State and the Chief Executive, is elected for six years. He chooses his own Cabinet and has the right to dissolve the Assembly and to order new elections.
Two Killed in Crash.—Two persons were killed today in the crash of an R.A.A.F. Meteor jet at the Williamstown base. The aircraft was on a routine training flight.—Newcastle, April 29.
