HOTEL DISPLAY CASE BROKEN
Five Bottles Of “Whisky” Taken
Early yesterday morning someone broke a display window in the bottle store of the Club Hotel at the corner of Colombo street and Battersea street, Sydenham, and removed five bottles of “whisky.” The bottles, though seemingly containing whisky, were dummies filled with sarsparilla and water to give a whisky colour. “It would be sufficient recompense to see their faces when they open the bottles and taste their contents,” said the licensee of the Club Hotel, Mr B. W. Lawrence, yesterday morning. The display window was broken about 3 a.m. Mr Lawrence heard a tinkling of glass at that time; He looked out his bedroom window, which fronts Battersea street, but seeing nothing untoward, he returned to bed. The window, measuring about sft by 4ft, faces Colombo street. It was not insured. Altogether there were about 12 dummy bottles of various kinds of liquor in the window.
