J. AIRD ACCEPTS OFFER
Going To Sydney This (Peek (New Zealand Press Association) GISBORNE, April 29. John Aird, the former Burnley and Scotland Soccer international, has accepted an offer from the Hokoah Club, Sydney, in the newlyformed Australian Professional League. Aird, who represented Scotland as full-back in the 1954 Word Cup series in Switzerland, has been inside right for the Eastern Union Club in Gisborre for the last 18 months. He will play full-back for the Sydney Club. Aird, who previously announced that he did not think he would accept the Sydney offer, will leave on Wednesday and his family will follow later. Eastern Union’s loss, however, will be filled by Ken Armstrong, the Chelsa and England international, who is also a qualified coach and who will join the club later in the season.
