The ball travelled the length of the field for Koster to score. The referee was Mr T. Mathie. CITY V. THISTLE City had a well deserved win over Thistle at Spreydon Park by 7 goals to 4. The fitness of the City team showed in the second half when Thistle tired badly and allowed a one-goal lead to change to a threegoal deficit. The showing of the City goalkeeper, K. King, was very poor against some mediocre shooting. J. Quickenden and J. Gordon led the City attack. T. Lynch and T. Clackson were both solid on defence and K. Nuttall, the City halfback, gave good distribution of the ball to his forwards. Star of the Thistle team was 21-year-old J. Lineham, at left wing. J. Cairns, the Thistle goalkeeper who left the field during the second half with an injured shoulder, had an able replacement in A. Robertson, who changed from full-back. S. Collins, at centre-forward for Thistle, played a fine game and his two goals were well deserved. Thistle attacked strongly from the whistle and went into the lead with a fine goal by Collins. Quickenden soon equalised for City. Then King allowed a ball to dribble through his fingers into the net. Fine goals by City's left wing, Cunningham, the inside forward, Worthington, and the centre-forward. Quickenden, soon put ‘the issue beyond doubt. The referee was Mr C. Sweeney. TECHNICAL v. RANGERS Rangers, which began well, could not stem the powerful Technical attack and was soundly beaten by 10 goals to 0. Rangers lacked combination at crucial stages. The hardest worker in the Rangers team was left half M. Somers, who played a sterling game on defence and attack. W. Adams, the Rangers goalkeeper, saved some very fine shots. The full-backs, M. Friedberg- and G. Snape, worked hard, but the half line gave very erratice service to the forward line. A promising young player who shone in the Rangers- forward line was J. Hinchley. The Technical goalkeeper, K. Sanders, played a safe game. The defence trio, S. Spinks, J Hunter. nd M. Dean, was very solid. D. Charlton and I. Drewitt gave the forwards a good distribution of the ball and effectively blocked many attacks oy Rangers. W. McKenzie showed a fine turn of speed on ihe left wing and repeatedly beat his opposite number. Vic Smith, the veteran of the Technical side, appears to have lost some of his speed. Ernie Fields, centre forward, playing his first season for Technical, was a good scorer. A. McAnulty and M. Jones made some fine moves on the right side. Jones scored a eonybook goal for Technical. Just before half-time McAnulty scored from a scramble in front of the Rangers goal. In the second half Rangers could not beat the Technical combination. All the Technical forwards scored and Fields ended the day with four goals. The referee was Mr Harold Royce. UNIVERSITY v. NOMADS

Although Nomads scored eight goals to University’s one, the game was not as one-sided as it would appear. Both teams played good, fast football, but Nomads’ superior combination and speed proved too much for the University defence. After 25 minutes a good centre lob by P. Rennell enabled A. Van Rooyen to head into the University goal. A few minutes later Van Rooyen again headed a centre from I. McCallum to put Nomads two up. Simmonds slipped- a forward pass to G. Ennis, who ran through and scored easily. Half-time: Nomads 3, University 0 . From the kick-off Nomads took more of the play and Van Rooyen headed from a corner by Bouwhuis. D. Adams scored for University after beating several defenders. Nomads continued to attack and two more goals from Van Rooyen together with two very fine .angled drives by Bouwhuis, brought the final score to; Nomads 8, University 1. The referee was Mr T. Gottermeyer.
