END OF THE ROAD.—This may be the first and is probably the last picture taken of R. J. Charles, leading New Zealand golfer, playing a shot without moving the ball. It was in a bunker at Shirley’s fifteenth hole that the phenomenon occurred, Charles being in thick mud and unable to obtain a foothold. It was the last hole of the match in which Charles was beaten in a semi-final of the Christchurch Club’s Easter tournament by J. G. Scott.
