New Diesel-Electric Locomotives

The first of 10 Australian-built diesel-electric locomotives for the Main Trunk line will be handed over to the Minister of Railways (Mr J. K. McAlpine) by the Senior Australian Trade Commissioner (Mr W. R. Hudspeth), at the Auckland railway station next Tuesday. The locomotive is one of two that arrived in New Zealand a fortnight ago from the Clyde Engineering Company, Sydney. The locomotives cost about £70,000 each.
