BLOODSTOCK SALE
495 Guineas For Russleigh
Russleigh, which was sold on account of Miss L. V. Gates, Christchurch, created most interest of the 16 lots offered at the annual Easter bloodstock sale in Christchurch yesterday. Bidding for the six-year-old Dogger Bank—Lady Leigh mare opened at lOOgns and rose by 50gn bids to 300 before she was knocked down to the bid of Mr A. J. Brown Wingatui, for 495gns. Rio Negro, which had been passed in at 275gns, was later bought privately by a North /slana buyer, Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Company, Ltd., Christchurch, acting as agents. The vendor of this seven-year-old Super—Trickster mare was Mr C. G. Tansey, Christchurch. The only other sale to exceed lOOgns was for a yearling bay colt by Coral Arc from Lady Law, bought by Mr A. F. Loe, Blenheim, for 170gns. It was offered on behalf of R. E. and Mrs Adair, Oxford.
The other yearling colt offered, a bay by Golden Souvenir from Lighthouse, was passed in after bidding, which began at. 200gns, had risen to 550gns. This half-brother to Innesfejl, Dahlia, Corolight and Sun House, was offered on behalf of his breeder, Mr O. F. Watson, Christchurch.
The sale was conducted by Messrs Pyne, Gould, Guinness Ltd., Christchurch, in conjunction with Wright, Stephenson and Company, Ltd., Wellington. The auctioneer was Mr D. B. Clarkson.
