Waimate Rider Dies From Injuries
(From Our Own Reporter) W AIMATE. April 26. As the result of injuries received when he was thrown from a horse, Vernon Maurice Hibbs, a single man, aged 26, died in the Waimate Hospital yesterday morning.
The accident occurred when Hibbs was assisting to exercise the Waimate District’s Hunt’s pack on Wednesday afternoon. The huntsman. Mr A. P. Langford, who was leading the hounds, happened to look back and saw Mr Hibbs lying on the ground, and his horse rising to its feet. Mr Hibbs died without regaining consciousness.
Mr Hibbs was an experienced rider, and frequently acted as whip for the hunt. As a mark of respect to his memory, the hunt’s meet scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled.
