Mrs Downey was born in the Prebbleton district 80 years ago, and spent all her life there. Her husband was a farmer until failing health compelled him to dispose of their farm a few months ago, and they came to live in Christchurch.

All her life Mrs Downey was closely associated with All Saints’ Church, and was an active member of the Mothers’ Union for many years. She was also a member of the Country Women’s Institute. She is survived by her husband and two sons, Mr S. Downey, of Prebbleton, and Mr N. O. Downey, of Christchurch.
