Missile Reaches 9240m.p.h.

(Rec. 11 p.m.) WASHINGTON, April 24.

A missile launched from the Patrick Air Force base in Florida was reported today to have reached a speed of 9240 miles an hour. ' It was an Xl7 missile, made by Lockheed, strictly a research item, and not designed as a weapon in itself.

The highest speed previously reported for a test missile was 8000 miles an hour.
