LOCAL TAX ON PETROL
Study By Cabinet Committee
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 25.
All the implications of the Auckland proposal for legislation to enable the metropolitan area’s contribution to the motorways scheme to be met from a special local tax on petrol were being studied by the Cabinet committee on economic and financial policy, said the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) yesterday.
Mr Holland said that the committee’s investigations would include consideration of the proper form of any legislation, as there was some doubt whether the proposals could be introduced in a local bill.
