(N.Z. Press Association^jCopyright) PARIS, April 24.
Europe’s economy should continue to expand and the present high level of employment would be maintained during the next five years, a report of the Organisation for European Economic Cooperation forecast today.
The report issued in Paris stated that greater economic co-operation between O.E.E.C. member countries was vitally important to the growth of the Continent’s economy.
The progress made towards the establishment of a common market among the six . European countries and the initiative taken in the field of introducing a free trade area among O.E.E.C. countries was evidence that this necessity was recognised and that new means were being sought to satisfy Europe’s need for close co-opera-tion. the report added. The report, entitled “Europe Today and in 1960,” is the second volume of the O.E.E.C.’s eighth annual report.
