HOSPITAL STAFF TREATED
Immunity From Poliomyelitis
Four hundred and 20 nurses from the North Canterbury Hospital Board’s institutions have been immunised against poliomyelitis and arrangements are being made to extend the service to other members of hospital staffs who come into contact with patients, either directly or indirectly. This report was made to Wednesday’s meeting of the board by the public health committee. Mr G. A. Oldham: Is it possible for people outside to be immunised?
“I don’t think so—yet,” replied the chairman (Dr. L. C. L. Averill). The Health Department had carried out a scheme to immunise children and was now “doing” the hospital staffs. ' The medical superintendent (Dr. T. Morten) said the hospital staff was subjected to most risk. A general scheme had not yet been brought down.
