Sir Heaton Rhodes’s Warrant

The illuminated warrant ap-' pointing the late Sir R. Heaton: Rhodes a Knight of Justice of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, in 1930. has been given to the Canterbury and West Coast Centre of the Venerable Order of St. John by his nephew, Mr J. H. Rhodes Accepting the warrant on behalf of the centre, at the annual meeting. the chairman (Mr B. J. McKenna), said that Sir Heaton Rhodes. the former president, would be well remembered for his work for the order, for his gentleness and many kindnesses through the years. The framed warrant would hang in a place of honour in the board room. By-Laws Adopted A new set of by-laws was adopted, establishing a Christchurch sub-centre, which will send two delegates to the Canterbury and West Coast centre. Other sub-centres will send one delegate. The centre’s building in Peterborough street would continue to be administered by the metropolitan sub-centre, said the secretary (Major-General G. B. Parkinson), explaining the new set of rules. There were many persons whose work for the association was unknown. said Dr. W. Gordon Rich, presenting the brigade report. “Only recently I saw a wellknown dentist coming out of our 'building—he had been lecturing cadets. Others who help us are traffic officers, firemen, and others with specialised knowledge.” Officers Elected The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.) was elected president. Other officers elected were: Vice-presidents, the RL Rev. A. IL Warren. Mr J H. Rhodes, Dr. J. Restell Thomas. Dr. W. Gordon Rich, Mr J. R. Maddren. Mr G. W. Tench. Mr P Stanley Foster and •Mr D.
