Representatives For Rosebowl The young Christchurch club player, J. G. Scott, who was runner-up to R. E. Clements in the Easter tournament match play at Shirley, has been included in Canterbury’s Freyberg Rosebowl tournament team. , The team chosen is, in playing order:—R. J. Charles, C. W. Caldwell (captain), R. E. Clements, ; K. D. Foxton, M. W. Stanley, J. G. Scott. The reserve is G. P. Vesty, of Timaru, and the manager is Mr W. D. Armstrong. The team is one of the strongest to represent Canterbury in this tournament, although two memi bers of last year’s team Were not eligible—R. D. Kearns is now in Dunedin and P. Lewis is in Wellington. 1 The inclusion of R. J. Charles, I the 1954 open champion, strength- « ens the team very considerably. . C. W. Caldwell, now at number two, has a good record in the - tournament. Stanley is the most experienced member of the team —this will be his sixth Rosebowl tournament. Clements has appeared for Canterbury in three previous tournaments, Foxton in one, Caldwell in two. It is Scott’s first tournament. The Canterbury team will leave Christchurch on May 6 or May 7. and the tournament will be played on May 9, 10, and 11. Canterbury’s opponents, in order, will be Waikato, ManawatuWanganui, Wellington* Southland, Bay of Plenty, and Hawke’s Bay. Woon Wins Tourney At Hamilton (New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON, April 23. D. L. Woon yesterday afternoon won the Easter championship at the St. Andrew’s Club, Hamilton. Woon was out in 34, two under scratch, against M. Draghici.- He beat Draghici 4 and 3, scoring 73. His putting lapsed in the second half. Woon began his round with three 3’s, two birdies, and a bogey. R. H. Glading won the championship flight, having been eliminated, 3 and 2, by Woon in the first round.
