FOUR INJURED AT HINDS

Collisions On Bridge Approach Four persons were injured, none seriously, in an unusual succession of accidents on the Hinds river bridge approach about 7.45 p.m. on Monday evening. They were Walter Edward Lowe, of Hinds, who was admitted unconscious to the Ashburton Public Hospital suffering from head injuries and . abrasions; James Kevin Gill, of Hinds, who was treated for shock; Russell Thomas, of 77 Ribble street, Oamaru, who was treated for shock; and Kevin Peter Scammell, who suffered lacerations. It is understood that two cars collided head on on the approach to the bridge and subsequently two further cars were involved, also colliding head on. Mr Lowe, the driver of a fifth car, who stopped to investigate, was struck by another car. All four cars involved in the collisions were extensively damaged. Messrs Gill, Thomas, and Scammell were later discharged from hospital, and the condition of Mr Lowe was described as satisfactory last evening.
