New Building For Court
The Government had authorised the preparation of plans for a fivestorey building to be erected in Wellington between the Supreme Court and the Arbitration Court, said the Attorney-General (Mr J. R. Marshall) in Christchurch yesterday when he announced the proposal for a permanent Court of Appeal. “Demolition of part of the single storey portion of the present Supreme Court building will be involved,’’ said Mr Marshall.
“The new building will provide a Court room, library, Judges’ chambers and other offices. “I do not, however, feel that the establishment of the proposed Court of Appeal must await the completion of the new building.
“Reasonable accommodation must, of course, be provided but I believe that can be done so as to enable the Court to be appointed and in operation at the beginning of next year,’’ said Mr Marshall.
