(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, April 23.
A Bluff fishing vessel, the Gekeita, with two men aboard, is at least four days overdue on a fishing trip to the West Coast sounds. The Gekeita left Bluff on April 3, and was expected back in port before Easter. Aboard are two brothers, Messrs A. J. and C. R. Waddick.: Both are experienced fishermen, and the Gekeita is well equipped. The vessel has radio-telephone equipment, but efforts by the Awarua radio to get in touch with her have been unsuccessful. Neither has Awarua heard any distress signals from the launch. The Gekeita had crayfish pots to collect in Preservation Inlet, and it is thought that the vessel may be in that area. The police have been notified that the vessel is overdue and that efforts tyave been made to trace her whereabouts. Further measures, including an air search, will be considered tomorrow.
