FOUR PERSONS INJURED

Car Rolls Down Bank Four persons were injured when their car skidded in shingle at Devil’s Knob, Birdlings Flat, about 6 p.m. yesterday, overturned, and rolled down a bank on to the railway line. Mrs N. Bond, of 156 Grimseys road, Papanui, was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital suffering from shock. Her condition last evening was reported to be Satisfactory. Mrs Geary, of 893 North road, Belfast, suffered head, leg, and arm injuries, and was admitted to the Burwood Public Hospital, where her condition was reported to be satisfactory. Two other passengers in the car were treated at the hospital and sent home. BULLET WOUND IN LEG Christchurch Girl Injured (New Zealand Press Association) NELSON, April 22. A 16-year-old schoolgirl, Judith Eleanor Burrell, whose home is at 11 Pukako terrace, Fendalton, Christchurch, was admitted to Nelson Public Hospital last night with a bullet wound in her leg. Miss Burrelli was spending Easter at Lake Rotoiti. At 3.40 o’clock yesterday afternoon she was helping serve afternoon tea in the living room of Mr E. E. Bishop’s cottage at the lake when a .303 rifle being unloaded by John Bishop accidentally discharged and wounded her in the right leg. John Bishop and his brother had just returned from a deerstalking expedition when the accident occurred.

After receiving medical attention at Lake Rotoiti Miss Burrell was taken to Nelson. Her condition today was reported to be satisfactory.

Tractor Capsizes And Kills Driver

WHANGAREI, April 22. An agricultural contractor was killed in a tractor accident at Kara on Saturday. He was Mr Donald Alexander Carswell, aged 49, single, of Dip road, Kamo. Mr Carswell was driving a crawler tractor on Mr C. Pearson’s property and was using the blade to push scrub into a gully. About 3 p.m., when Mr Carswell was alone, the tractor capsized, ing him underneath. Mr Carswell received severe head injuries and died almost immediately. BABY DROWNED IN DITCH (New Zealand Press 'Association) AUCKLAND, April 22. The body of a 13-month-old boy was found lying in a water-filled ditch on Mr G. Williamson’s farm at Kerepehi late yesterday afternoon. He was Graeme Darcy Slatter, second son of Mr G. Slatter, of Netherton, near Paerba. It is believed that the child slipped and fell into the ditch, while unattended for a few moments. Pedestrian Struck By Car A pedestrian, Mr A. H. Borland, of 12A Burwood road, suffered a fractured leg when he was knocked down by a car near the intersection of Mcßratneys road and Benfield street shortly before 9.30 p.m. yesterday. He was taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital by a St. John ambulance. The driver of the car, Mr T. R. Yesburg. was uninjured, when, after striking Mr Borland, his car ran into a parked car. The parked car was damaged. Cyclist Injured At Gymkhana Mr T. J. Kenny, aged 17. a clerk, was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital with suspected concussion after he fell from his cycle at a gymkhana at Chertsey yesterday. Mr Kenny had been making a preliminary circuit of the track, and his cycle slipped on a patch of mud. His condition was reported last evening to be satisfactory.
