SEARCH FOR CLIMBER
Unusual Prints Found (New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, April 22. Alpine and Ski Club members searching the slopes of Mount Ruapehu at the 7000-feet level today found a set of unusual footprints leading from the Whakapapa Glacier which could have been made by the missing 19-year-old Hungarian tramper, Mr Egon Lehner. They led to a rocky area in which there are large precipices, and search parties will leave the Chateau Tongariro at daylight tomorrow to search the area. There were more than 700 searchers on the mountain today. The weather was patchy, but it cleared and was fine in the afternoon. The footprints found led from the Whakapapa Glacier towards a feature known as the ampitheatre. They were traced to the end of the snow-line toward bush at the back of the Erua-Pokaka district. In several places the footprints indicated that a person slid down the incline.
