DOMINION LEGAL CONFERENCE

Cocktail Party Held

Delegates to the tenth Dominion legal conference, which will open in Christchurch this morning, and their wives met informally last evening at a cocktail party held at the Winter Garden, About 600 guests were received by Mr R. A. Young, president of the Canterbury District Law Society, and Mrs Young, host and hostess for the conference, and by Mr T. P. Cleary (Wellington), president of the New ' Zealand Law Society, and Mrs Cleary. Among the guests were several visitors from Australia, who will attend the conference, and their wives.

Guests of honour included the Chief Justice (Sir Harold Barrowclough) and Lady Barrowclough, Mr Justice Hutchison and Mrs Hutchison, Mr Justice Adams, Mr Justice McGregor and Mrs McGregor, Mr Justice T. A. Gresson and Mrs Gresson, Mr Justice McCarthy and Mrs McCarthy, Sir Artyiur Fair and his sister, Miss E. Fair, Judge Dalglish and Mrs Dalglish; Judge Archer and Mrs Archer; Judge Prichard and Mrs Prichard, Judge Jeune,. Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M., and Mrs Ferner, and Mr F. F. Reid, S.M., and Mrs Reid.

Lady Barrowclough wore a frock of black dull-finished lace mounted on cherry taffeta, a silver fox cape and small black hat. Mrs Young’s model sheath frock of black linen had a deep Vyoke of black guipure lace, and was worn with turquoise kid gloves. This attractive colour combination was repeated in her turquoise and black ostrichfeather hat. Mrs Cleary’s powderblue fitting coat of silk poplin featured white-striped revers, which matched her powder blue and white striped frock. She wore a small hat to tone. The party was arranged by Mr W. K. L. Dougall, assisted by Mr A. I. Pringle and the two conference secretaries, Messrs A. D. Holland and A. Hearn.
