Legless Animal Trainer.— Tonga, a 24-year-old German wild animal tamer with no legs and only one hand has made a successful debut in a music hall in Hanover. He carries neither ,a whip nor weapon during his act with a male leopard. Tonga lost his legs and right hand by amputation after being injured while fleeing from East Germany at the end of the war.—(Reuter)
Japanese Cherries for India.— India is experimenting with 300 cherry trees which have been sent as a gift from the Japanese Government. Two hundred of the trees have been planted in research institutes at Simla and another -100 at Naini Tai in the Himalayas to see if they will flourish in an Indian hill climate.— (Reuter)
Co-Education Favoured. The headmaster of Parramatta (Sydney) High School, Mr J. J. Forster, believes that schools should be co-educational. Co-education in high schools would give students a better understanding of the opposite sex and their problems, said Mr Forster. Parramatta High School has been co-educa-tional for 40 years.—Sydney (Reuter).
