N.Z. Jockey Wins Steeplechase
(N.Z. Press Association~~Copyright) ADELAIDE, April 22. The Nev/ Zealand steeplechase jockey, R. G. Dulieu, today helped the trainer, H. C. Campbell, to realise a 34-year-old ambition when his £2O bargain buy. Just Mick (6 to 1), gained a brilliant win in the £4lOO Great Eastern Steeplechase at Oakbank. Conman (12 to 1) was a good second, with the favourite, Unkadale (2 to -1), a fair third. Just Mick looked a winner when he was racing third behind Conman and Unkadale at the fallen log jump the last time round. However, as they raced to the nineteenth jump on the top of the hill, Unkadale increased his lead and looked to have the race won. He was then well clear of Conman, with another four lengths to Just Mick. As they approached the final jump, Unkadale faltered slightly, and both Conman and Just Mick cleared the obstacle brilliantly and set off after him. Both Conman and Just Mick raced past Unkadale. and half-way down the straight Just Mick drew away from Conman.
