GYMKHANA AT CHERTSEY
Record Crowd At Annual Event About 4000 persons capitalised on fine, warm weather in Mid-Canter-bury yesterday when the Chertsev Athletic and Gymkhana Club held its gymkhana at Chertsey Domain. The crowd was the largest the club has had at this annual event for some time, and gate takings totalled £295 Ils 2d. The programme was a large one, but, despite early set-backs, due mainly to the condition of the race track, the final trotting event was only 15 minutes behind schedule. Highlight of the day was the D. Lynch Free-for-all, of one mile and three furlongs. Horses which had raced successfully throughout the Dominion delighted the crowd with an exciting race. Generally, entries in most events were greater than previous years, with big increases in trotting entries and pony events for children. Both the cycling events and the trotting were handicapped early in the day by the heavy track.
