RAIDS BY I.R.A.

Petrol Bombs Thrown (Rec. 10 pjn.) BELFAST, April 22. Petrol bombs were thrown at a power sub-station in Londonderry today—l2 hours after an unsuccessful attempt to burn the British customs station. The flames were put out within a few minutes. The raiders, members of the Irish Republican Army, escaped. A customs officer disturbed them after they had set an office alight. The raiders had sprinkled paraffin over the walls and furniture. All police leave in Northern Ireland has been stopped this week-end to deal with any sudden outbreak of I.R.A. activity. Military and police patrols along the border with the Irish Republic have been reinforced. The I.RA. is pledged to reunite Ireland and end British rule in Ulster by any means, including the use of force. Raide -s later struck across the border into Cluntoe, County Tyrone. A policeman was injured by a booby trap bomb when he went to haul down a republic tricolour from a water-tower at a disused Royal Air Force station at Cluntoe. He was rushed to hospital with severe head wounds.
