Cricket CONFERENCE OF UMPIRES

(New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NTH., April 21. A New Zealand Cricket Umpires’ Association seeking recognition by the New Zealand Cricket Council, was formed in Palmerston North yesterday. A General Districts Cricket Umpires’ Association, the first in New Zealand. has already been approved by the council. Delegates from Auckland, Wellington. King Country. North Taranaki, South Taranaki, Rangffikei. Southern Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa, Manawatu, Central Districts, Wellington, Nelson, Canterbury, South Canterbury ana Southland, attended the meeting. Mr J. A. Ongley, on be'half of the New Zealand council, said: “The only way to do it was to bring umpires together. The New Zealand council is almost as enthusiastic as the umpires themselves, although its actions have been limited to giving th conference its blessing.’
The following officer? were elected: president, Mr C. Matson (Central Districts) forth Island, vice-president, Mr J. Dainty (Wellington); South Island vice-president, Mr E. Milne; secretary-treasurer* Mi G. S. Northcote iCentral Districts), management committee, Messrs G Coleman (Wairarapa), N Hassel] (Manawatu), J. Dore (Wellington i. and A. W. Warren Manawatu).
The objects of :.he association are to co-operate with and assist the New Zealand Council by promoting efficiency among umpires, to assist the council in enforcing and upholding the laws of cricket; to assist the counil to maintain a uniform inteipreation of cricket laws, and to circulate to all affiliated associations the laws of cricket and amendments as adopted by the council.
