Solepic Beats Suprente Court At Elletslie

(New Zealand Press Associations AUCKLAND, April 21. An outsider, Solepic, narrowly beat Supreme Court in the £4500 Easter Handicap on the first day of the Auckland Racing Club’s autumn meeting at Ellerslie yesterday. Supreme Court made a great attempt to win from end to end.

He fought back determinedly when challenged by Solepic, but just failed to hold on. India, which was one of the last into the straight, finished brilliantly for third. There was a major upset in the Great Northern Oaks, when the champion staying three-year-old, Passive, was beaten easily by Alluring Passive seemed likely to have a comfortable win when she forged clear with three furlongs to go, but Alluring was much too good over the final stages. Two riders were suspended after an inquiry into interference suffered by Royal Jester in the second division of the Onslow Stakes. D. M. Keenan, rider of Loch Lomond, was suspended up to and including Saturday, May 18, and R. A. Barron, rider of the winner, Love and Kisses, up to and including June 1. A. G. Colven, the rider of Golden Seaman in the Onslow Stakes, is to be charged at an inquiry tomorrow with causing interference. The good two-year-old.
