ANNUAL BALL

ST. MARGARET’S COLLEGE OLD GIRLS Visitors from as far as Stirling, Otago, and Auckland attended the annual ball of the St. Margaret’s College Old Girls’ Association in the Winter Garden last evening. Carnival paper hats were distributed among the guests, who were also served hot soup before the last dance.

Flowers, berries, seed pods, and leaves in the college colours—green and silver—were arranged in the ballroom, lounges, and alcoves. On the supper tables flower candles stood between trailing ivy leaves. The official guests were received in the lounge by the vice-presidents and escorted to their alcove, where they were welcomed by the president (Mrs N. Morton-Smith). They included Miss J. P. Crosher, patron of the association and headmistress of the college, Miss K. P. Edwards, first assistant mistress, the Ven. Archdeacoti W. W. Averill, college chaplain, and Mrs Averill. Mr D. Cowie, honorary auditor, and Mrs Cowie. Mrs C. L. Young, Miss Mary Morten, of Auckland, representing the Auckland branch of the association, Mrs G. Rich, the Armagh Circle, and representatives of the following kindred associations: Christchurch West High School, Villa Maria Convent, Avonside Girls’ High School, Christ’s College, St. Andrew’s College, Christchurch Boys’ High Schoql, and Wanganui Collegiate School. Officers of the association who arranged the ball were:—president, Mrs Morton-Smith; honorary vice-presi-dents, Miss L. Gardner and Miss N. Vale: vice-presidents, Mesdames A. Benzie, W. Quirk, and J. Neale; committee, Mesdames W. L. Partridge, H. Wauchop, J. B. Williams, E. Taylor, R. C. Hallidav, Misses Marlene Bell and Barbara Flesher; honorary treasurer, Mrs C. L. Sturge; honorary secretary. Mrs E. A. Guillermo. , Several dinner parties were held before the ball.
