BOTTLES IN THE PARK
Sir, —I wish to know if there is anv by-law to prohibit bottles being taken into city parks and left there. I run round Hagley Park every day, and notice numerous empty bottles and much broken glass lying around. Hagley Park is used by numerous athletes, including harriers, as a training ground, especially during the winter evenings; and both empty bottles and broken bottles constitute a grave dangey. I cut my foot today on a broken beer bottle, and last year J. R. Clarke, past New Zealand marathon chnmpion, had his tendon almost severed on a broken beer bottle. Numerous other athletes I know have had narrow escapes. If there is no by-law, how about one being introduced and strictly enforced?—Yours, etc., F. S. JAMES. July 8. 1954.
