NIGHT MEETINGS CRITICISED

“NOT A SPORT; ONLY ENTERTAINMENT” Night trotting was not a sport, but only an entertainment, said the president (Mr A. G. Jamieson) at the annual meeting of the New Brighton Trotting Club last evening. Mr Jamieson, who represented his club at the Inter-Dominion Championship meeting at Wayville, Adelaide, last February, said that the sport there was nothing like trotting in New Zealand, and he thought it unlikely that it would become popular in the Dominion. The Forbury Park Club was attempting to start night trotting in Dunedin, but he did not think the climate was suitable, said Mr Jamieson. The climate was one of the major factors against that type of trotting throughout New Zealand.
