GAMEFISHING RECORD RECOGNISED

(New Zealand Press Association; WHANGAREI, July 8. The International Gamefish Association has officially recognised as a world record the 3311 b striped marlin swordfish landed on six-thread line (181 b breaking strain) by Mr C. Harold Hopkins at the Bay oi Islands on March 15 1954. Advice to this effect has been received by the secretary of the Bay of Islands Swordfish and Mako Snark Club (Mr A. Armstrong). Mr Hopkins, who comes from Balboa, California, has spent several summers at the Bay of Islands. He fought the record fish for 4hr 42min. During the fight the fish travelled 14 miles out to sea.
