Typhoid Outbreak After Flood
(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) LAREDO (Texas), July 5. The fear of typhoid rose today in flood-crippled cities south of the Rio Grande and thousands of units of vaccine were flown in from the United States to fight it. The worst threat was believed to be at Ciudad Acuna, Mexico, where an increase in the typhoid rate was reported. The water supply was thought to be contaminated. The Taxas State Department of Public Safety flew 300 bottles of vdtcine to Ciudad Acuna. At the same time the Texas city of Laredo flew additional thousands of units of vaccine across the Rio Grande to its sister city, Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. The danger of an epidemic on the United States side of the Rio Grande appeared to have been averted by a mass vaccination programme. The greatest flood in the Rio Grande’s history last week killed at least 45 persons and did millions of dollars worth of damage.
