PORTABLE ELECTRIC TOTALISATOR

SOUTHLAND CLUBS REJECT OFFER
“The Press” Special Service INVERCARGILL, July 7. Southland racing and trotting clubs have rejected a proposition put before them by Automatic Totalisators, Ltd., to introduce electric totalisators to Southland.
Southland clubs agreed that the electric portable machine could not be operated as economically as the Southland Totalisator Committee, the activities of whicn. have played a big part in giving mostt Southland clubs a strong financial position. The clubs decided that the increased cost of running the electric machine was not justified.
Mr W. Young, of Gore, manager of the Southland Totalisator Committee, said that it was the unanimous decision of the Southland clubs to reject the offer of the electric portable machine. He said that next season it was intended to introduce a dividend indicator on Southland courses. WHYTE HANDICAP MAINLANDER MAY NOT RUN > “The Press” Special Service , WELLINGTON, July 7. W. J. Bromby, of Trentham, said this morning that Mainlander would not run in the Whyte Handicap if the going became heavy, as appeared likely. i Riverstone (C. It has not been decided whether he will contest the Mariri Hack, and Hunters’ Steeplechase or the Vittoria Hack Hurdles.
Sir William arrived at Trentham yesterday. He • has developed well since he was successful at Hastings, and looks ready for another good effort in the Woburn Hack Handicap, for which he will be favourite.
Other visiting horses on the track this morning included Lyndomar, Beaverbrook, Red Tinge, Copperfield, Wayren, Reproof, Selector, Royal Mail, and Peepin’ Thru .
