K FORCE STAFF OFFICERS
MAJOR R. J. ABBOTT’S NEW POST (N.Z. Army Information Service) KURE, July 6. Major R. J. Abbott arrived in Japan at the week-end by air from New Zealand to take over the appointment of Deputy Assistant Adjutant and Quartermaster-General for K Force in succession to Major P. G. Monk, who is due to return home soon.
Until his,departure for Korea, Major Abbott was Deputy Assistant Quarter-master-General at Southern Military District Headquarters. Before that he was chief instructor for four years at the Armoured School, Waiouru. In World War II he served in the Middle East and Italy, first with the 20th Battalion and later with the 20th Armoured Regiment, to which the 20th Battalion was converted after the battle of El Alamein. Major Monk, also a World War II veteran, has been Deputy Assistant Adjutant and Quartermaster-General for K Force since March, 1953. A regular officer, he is expected to return to New Zealand about the middle of this month.
