CABINET CHANGE IN HUNGARY
INTERIOR MINISTER REMOVED (Rec 8 p.m.) VIENNA, July 6. Mr Ernoe Geroe, the second leading Communist in Hungary and once reputed to be a close friend of the execu : ted Russian police chief Lavrenti Beria, has been removed from tne Key office of the Ministry of the Interior under Hungarian Government changes announced tonight by the Budapest R Cierde, a 56-year-old Communist of Jewish birth, has been replaced by a “strong man," Major-General Laslo Piros, the secret police chief, who was made First Deputy at the Interior
Ministry one year ago. The announcement said that Mr Geroe was being assigned to another : important post," but no further de- ■ tails were given. Mr Geroe a veteran of the Spanish civil war and a member of the Com- . munist Party since 1918, spent most of the last war in the Soviet Union, and ; returned to Hungary in 1944 to play ' an important role in the national ini dependence front. He was a dynamic 1 leader in Hungarian post-war recon- • struction as Minister of Transport ana ■ Public Works in the government : formed in 1945. • Under the changes announced yesterday, Mr Jozsef Tisza. the Food Mm- ? ister is replaced by Mr Andas Szobek, t till now Deputy Trade Minister 1 Mr Jozsef Bognar is appointed Minister of Internal Trade, and Mr Laszlo Hay Minister of Foreign Trade. These two positions fell vacant on June 15 when two new Ministries were created out of the former one Ministry of Trade. Mr Bognar was Minister and Mr Hay 'his first deputy.
