RUGBY LEAGUE

ENGLISH TOUR OF DOMINION (New Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND, July 6. Hie English Rugby League team would make every effort to play the full itinerary when the side made its threeweek tour of New Zealand later this month and in August, said the secretary of the New Zealand Rugby League Council (Mr J. E. Knowling) on his return from Australia today.

Previously, the English managers had asked that one of the two mid-week matches at Hamilton and New Plymouth before the final test should be dropped. Mr Knowling, who represented New Zealand at last week’s international conference in Brisbane, said no decision was made on the controversial banning of the transfer of overseas players. Australia and New Zealand supported the continuance of the ban, which would expire in December.

England had not discussed the matter, and France considered that transferring should be done through the leagues rather than the players said Mr Knowling. France was planning a tour of New Zealand and Australia next year, he said. A four-week tour of New Zealand, with two tests, might be approved.

The Wellington Association has accepted July 24 as the date for an interprovincial match with Canterbury in Christchurch. Nominations were received from clubs for players to take part in the New Zealand-born v. Overseas-born match later in the season.
